We want to make sure you are completely satisfied with your purchase. Customers must return their product within 30 days of shipment to receive a full credit less a 15% restocking fee. Returns must be presented in new condition with all of the original packaging.

Product life cycle increases. Rugged computing devices are designed to achieve a five-to-seven-year lifespan. Non-rugged devices average a One-to-three-year lifecycle.

Failure rates decrease. Rugged devices are designed to perform in harsh environments and do so while maintaining a 2 percent average failure rate. Non-rugged laptops are built to less vigorous specifications and average 12-16 percent failure in ideal environments.

Operational parameters expand. Rugged devices are typically rated operational from zero to 122 degrees Fahrenheit and regularly exceed these specifications in production. In cold climates, non-rugged mobile computing devices would need to be left indoors or in a running vehicle with the heat on until the ambient temperature exceeds 32 degrees. In warm climates, non-rugged units may fail entirely and be unable to power back on until their temperature cools to an operational level.

Visibility will be increased. Rugged device screens employ sunlight filtration, glare reduction, anti-reflective coatings and brightness ratings of up to 6000 nits to allow for wide-angle viewing in direct sunlight. Non-rugged devices might have lower quality versions of some of these features and will typically peak around 340 nits. Consumer screens are easily washed out in even indirect daylight (e.g., in a vehicle during the day.).

Improved communications. Access plans, reports, permits, and have instant communication between office and field staff with the most advanced 4G, Push-to-talk, and speed on the market. 

Low-light functionality. Rugged MDTs offer low-light viewable screens and multi-setting backlit keyboards. Many users work 24 hours a day, and their equipment must work seamlessly into the night without sacrificing performance, functionality or ergonomics.

Embedded options. Rugged MDTs allow for unique embedded options to enhance functionality. This enables numerous executables to be integrated into a single platform. Common options include radio frequency ID (RFID) card readers, insertable card readers, barcode scanners and magnetic stripe readers.

Mounts and docks. A rich network of manufacturers provides many options for mounting rugged mobile devices in vehicles and work environments. The docks provide port replication for peripherals, extended connectivity options and built-in power supplies for charging the device.

Warranty upgrade. Rugged devices are covered by standard warranties ranging from three-to-five years and sometimes include accidental damage protection at no extra charge.

Ruggedness. The industry benchmark for device rugged-ability is the U.S. Military Standard 810G (MIL-STD-810G). This grueling set of standards covers parameters such as: dropping the equipment from a certain height, vibration, shock impact, high and low temperatures, particulate, liquid and humidity resistance. The ingress protection rating — resistance to particulates and liquid — of a device will often also be listed (e.g., IP65, IP67).

When mobile workforce are equipped with mobile computers, employees can be productive anywhere, anytime. However, most portable computers are not designed for work outside the office and are at a significantly greater risk of being damaged. Damage can occur in a number of ways: drops, spills, dirt, dust, extreme temperatures, and vibration.

Annually, rugged computers average a 65% lower total cost of ownership, with a 2% fail rate. Average fail rates for consumer computers are 11-18% in ideal environments. Our rugged units come with a three year bumper to bumper warranty including accidental damage covering external and internal issues that could occur with everyday use.

Rugged Development always has you covered with a 3-year mechanical warranty on nearly every item we sell. Mechanical failure includes but not limited to hard drive, charge port, battery, touchscreen, memory, and motherboard failure.

Accidental damage protection is included on some models, but if not can always be added on as an option to include drops, cracked screens, liquid spills, liquid submersion. A replacement device will be provided if a device cannot be repaired, it is replaced with the same exact brand, model and spec. If the device is end of life, then it will be replaced with the next generation model or one with similar features and functionality.

Extended warranties can be added as an option, so you have the piece of mind that you are always covered for year 4 and 5.

Need a repair? Once your order is shipped, they will be registered by serial number and you will have access to your account to do any warranty requests. 2-way postage will be included with all claims under warranty and you will be able to track everything though your online account.
